6-29-2010 Yellowstone - Day 3 ... Curses, foiled again!

Lone Star Geyser erupts (for 30-45 minutes!) every 3 hours like clockwork and according to the park ranger it was due to go off at 11:00 a.m. this morning, so we hiked into this "bear country" along this stream for 2 & 1/2 miles to see it, timing our arrival for 10:30 a.m....

... only to arrive and find it just finishing its eruption which began around 10:00 a.m. according to those already present. ~Argh!!! I hate it when that happens! Oh well, at least the mosquitos along the stream had a good breakfast... US!

This afternoon we visited the "Paint Pots" ...
burbling, splattering mud holes created by hot underground sulphuric acids that dissolve the rock, turning it into mud. Creepy!
