had been around
when my kids were little.
I received this awesome fleece
for my birthday
with pix of my GS:
How cool is that?!?!?
Earlier this year we received
2 photo coffee mugs as well.
When my kiddos were little
all I had was a film camera
and prints to put in an album.
Thank you so much, dear D-I-L.
Love you all...

Now that I have finished my pine tree shawl
(see 6-14-2013 post)
I have cast on my 3rd lace shawl:
by iceknitterly designs.
Can't wait to see how it turns out!
My first 2 shawls had resting rows on the WS
while this one knits lace patterns on both sides
so it will be a new challenge for me to learn this technique!
I started a little
Green Bay Packers toy/doll
(while at "Friday Night Sit & Knit" at the LYS)
for a new baby boy born in Wisconsin!
I plan to add two arms
and a cheesehead too...
Today I went through my clothes closet
and decided to get rid of things
I have not worn in the past year
or no longer fit.
the emotional attachment
I had to some of the clothing!
It was all I could do to let them go!
Why, I wondered?!?!?
I guess it is because of the memories
attached to the items of clothing...
t-shirts from running in different races (BIX 7, etc.)...
and riding motorcycles in different rallies...
items purchased for special occasions (weddings, etc.)...
I finally decided to share the clothing
but keep the memories!
While I was taking load after load of clothing
out to my car
my next door neighbors were out mowing their yard
and saw me loading up the car.
So, off I go to Goodwill to donate the clothing,
and upon my return,
my neighbors were just finishing up
mowing MY yard too!
They had seen my dear husband out mowing
with the borrowed reel push mower this past 2 weeks
while our gas mower was in the repair shop
and now that temps are in the upper 90's (98*F)
they didn't want him out there getting heat stroke!
Bless their hearts!
We live next to angels.
I promptly went out and bought them a nice thank you card
and gift certificate to a nice local restaurant
as a thank you!
Later that evening,
DH & I attended another cooking class by Chef Monika.
It had the theme: Red White & Blue:
Red pears poached in red wine
White fish poached in white wine
with a white chocolate and white champagne sauce
Blue Mountain coffee and blue cornmeal crusted pork tenderloin
topped with a blueberry & smoked blue cheese reduction.

What a surprise
when I arrived at last night's
"Sit & Knit" at the LYS...
A birthday card full of love and good wishes!
A gluten free chocolate birthday cake!
A bag of chocolate candies!
A bowl of fresh picked organic strawberries!
A bottle of ChocoVine!
A surprise birthday party for moi.
Love you gals!
Thank you soooooooo much!
This morning I turned most of those strawberries
into strawberry freezer jam!
rough chopped the strawberries...
mixed 2 c. strawberries with 4 c. sugar...
then stirred in 1.75 oz. pectin dissolved in 3/4 c. boiling water...
and stirred for 3 minutes before filling containers...
I had enough for two batches of jam
and a few strawberries left over for eating!

I finished knitting...
inserting blocking wires...
(pine trees and pine cones detail)
I love how it turned out!
A few more steaming/drying sessions
to finish blocking it
and it is ready to send on its way
to the recipient!
She's always been a 'mountain girl'
(Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska)
and I'm sure she loves being surrounded by pine trees
and their intoxicating scent
not to mention their amazing cones!
(And don't miss the four 'deer'
up the center spine of the shawl...)
When I saw this pattern
I immediately thought of her
and knew I had to knit it for her!
What a wonderful forest
to wrap around her shoulders
as she sits outdoors on her new front porch...
or indoors in front of the fireplace!
Every stitch with love!

Starting this new knitting project today...
My friend who purchased the pattern
does not knit in-the-round
(which is how this doll is knit)
so she asked me to help her
to convert the pattern so
that she can knit the doll flat.
Not sure if I will be able to do that,
but will give it a go!
Wish me luck!

While on our road trip this past weekend
to visit my M-I-L
we ate where the locals love to eat:
and The Egg & I.
DH & I disassembled and brought home
(from our M-I-L's condo this past weekend)
his father's workbench and tools...
they have sentimental value to my DH
and will come in handy now that
DH is doing woodworking again.
with all the rain we have had this past 3 weeks
(more rain than all YEAR last year!)
so I picked some rhubarb and
made this to take to "Sit & Knit" tonight:
Rhubarb Dump Cake
1 pound rhubarb, cut into 1/4 inch pieces (3 to 4 cups)
1 cup white sugar
1 (3 oz.) package strawberry jell-o
1 package yellow cake mix DRY
1 cup water
1/4 cup melted butter
Preheat oven to 350*F. Grease a 9x13" glass baking dish.
Spread the rhubarb evenly in the bottom of the baking dish.
Sprinkle the sugar over the rhubarb, followed by the jell-o, and finally the dry cake mix. Pour the water and melted butter over the top. Do NOT stir.
Bake for 45 minutes or until the rhubarb is tender.

After yesterday/last night's storms
I found this nest and three eggs
on the ground beneath or birch trees.
Two of the three eggs seemed intact
while the third had a large crack.
Using some yarn, DH helped me
tie the nest back into the tree
and we then put the 2 good eggs
back into the nest
and put the cracked egg
back on the ground.
We are waiting to see
if the mama robin returns to the nest.
