4-28-2014 Pattycake

My 'Pattycake' doll is finished!
She was created by participating in a MKAL
(Mystery Knit-A-Long)
where each week the designer gives us one clue to knit
(the head, the torso, arms, legs, hair, clothes, etc.)
and after 7 weeks, one has a doll.
I purposely left off a mouth
so that you can tell her your secrets
and she can't/won't repeat them to anyone else.

4-27-2014 Blocked

Hot off the needles
Before being blocked:

Being steam-blocked:

After being steam-blocked:
I love how blocking knitted items
opens up the lace-work patterns
and 'blooms' the fabric!
My beaded Tea-Time Serviette is finished
in time for Mother's Day!
This type of knitting
is definitely NOT my 'cup of tea'
so this will be a
'one and done'
for sure!

4-26-2014 Watering Flowers

I helped Oma plant these pansies
and water her day lilies
with my new "Hello Kitty" watering can.

4-24-2014 One and Done

WOW… this is going slowly!!!
This is going to be a one-and-done… never again!
I have yet to get the hang of knitting
with cotton crochet thread.
I am a loose knitter according to the gals at the LYS,
but it takes me 45 seconds to 1 1/2 minutes
to perform EACH and every SSK and K2TOG.
I can get the needle tip through one of the two stitches,
but have a heck of a time getting it through the second stitch.
The cotton crochet thread
has absolutely NO give or stretch to it,
(like almost all yarn DOES).
My German stubbornness will force me to finish the project,
but I will never do another!
Altho, who knows…
I said the same thing about entrelac knitting,
and now I love it! ha.

4-23-2014 Radish and Worms

Helping Papa plant radish seeds...

...and digging to find worms!

4-22-2014 Birthday

GD watching the candles on her Bday cake.

GD putting the first handprint on her
'birthday board.'
Mommy still needs to mark her height.

4-21-2014 Back to Work

My DD's maternity leave is over
so she is back to work full time today...
so I got to play with the GDs all day.

3-20-2014 Happy Easter

We had quiet Easter
with some lovely Spring weather
so DH spaded over half the garden this afternoon,

and then we sat on our new patio
and enjoyed the fire pit
in the evening.

3-18-2014 A Wonderful Gift

Used our generous gift
"Grandparents Season Pass"
to the zoo
to enjoy this beautiful day!
Spring has finally arrived!

Another wonderful gift...
a beautiful offering of music
on Good Friday.

3-17-2014 Can't Decide

I can't decide which size eyes
to put on my next fairy doll...
The large ones look TOO large to me...

 ...and the smaller ones
look a little too small to me...
Maybe I should try making a pair of eyes
half way between these sizes
and then place the white 'life' dots correctly
as they are not placed correctly on these templates!
If one looks at the fairies in the pattern book
the white dots are placed correctly
(dots are on the same side)
on the author's dolls,
but the templates she provides in her book
have the white 'life' dots on opposite sides
of the eyes which makes them look weird to me!

3-16-2014 Noah

Still too cold
to go outdoors
so DH & I went to see the new movie

Then we came home
and I worked on two more projects:
an Easter Bunny for GD#2
using the leftover yarn from the sweater I made her:

and the beginnings of my first knitted doily:

3-15-2015 Birthday Boards

Yesterday's raindrops
Turned into white fluffy stuff
so we stayed inside...
Sitting on the stool
watching Papa help Mama,
Making memories.

Mommy wants to make
'Birthday Boards' for her two girls...
mark the heights and hands.

3-14-2014 On Top Of the World In Purple Shoes

Little purple shoes
Grip the wet slippery rock.
She is fearless.

Feeling the raindrops,
Standing on top of the rock,
She's Queen of her world.

4-12-2014 Signs of Spring After the Eternal Winter!

The ground snow has melted
and the grass is greening!

The creeks and Mississippi River have thawed!

Looks like my GS has been shopping... for Easter?
He looks rather dashing, yes?!?!?

GD#2 asleep
while GD#1 plays at the park...
before the predicted snow comes tomorrow!

4-11-2014 Another MCAL

Another Mystery Crochet-a-Long underway
...I'm guessing an Easter Bunny?

4-10-2014 Gnarly

...what I feel like these days!
Saw these old growth trees
on this morning's 3 mile walk...
and thought to myself,
"I FEEL how they LOOK!"

4-6-2014 Road Trip to Chicago

The cousins got to play together,
and the aunt and uncle got to meet the new niece!
Fun day!

4-5-2014 99th Season Finale Performance

Tonight DH & I
went to the (99th) season finale
of the QCSO.
They performed
Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 3 in D Minor
for the very first time in the QC...
featuring Mezzo-Soprano Adriana Zabala
and the QC Women's Choir.
The QCSO did an outstanding job playing the piece
and I enjoyed it thoroughly
in spite of being head-butted by the man in front of me,
and having my chair kicked by the man behind me
for 4 of the 6 movements!
He probably thought he was tapping his foot
in time with the music...
but he wasn't.
(I finally got up and moved to a different row/seat!)
If he ever sits behind me again...
and kicks my chair again...
it will be obvious to me that he didn't take a hint
when I had to move to a different seat,
so I will try some public shaming...
next time I will reach back,
squeeze his knee,
and say very loudly,
"Quit kicking my chair please!"

4-4-2014 Things That Make This Oma Smile

Pattycake's dress is now being knit.

And GD#2 is starting to smile at 8 weeks.
