9-30-2014 Patch

This little pumpkin head is named "Patch".
(inspired by Tim Burton movies)
I finished her this morning
by adding the family smirk.
Just a little somethin' somethin'
with which the granddaughters can play.

for your love of God
is like the morning mist,
like the early dew
that disappears."

9-22-2014 The NOOK

On our way to Chicago yesterday,
in addition to stopping at the wood store for him,
DH & I stopped at a new (to me)
yarn shop in Lisle, IL
called The NOOK.
What a fun place on a quaint Main Street!

You can check out photos of the inside of the shop
in the link provided above.

I'd been looking for a hot pink yarn
to make a hat for my Granddaughter
to go with her hot pink coat this winter
and found this yummy hand painted sock yarn...

My husband also picked out this yarn for himself
for some felted slippers for this winter...
(Iowa winters are COLD!!!)

And most exciting of all...
I am working on a sweater for my grandson for Christmas
and am running out of the yarn
(it came in a kit)
and The NOOK had more skeins of that same yarn!!!
Yay!!!! So, I snagged a few of those as well.

9-20-2014 Working Puzzles

I made this swatch
to replicate a mistake
that a friend made while knitting her
raglan sleeves on her sweater
to try and work the puzzle of how to fix it
without having to unknit several inches
of the sweater
back down
to the point of the mistake...
The pattern calls for: YO, k2, YO.
She did: YO, k1, YO, k1, instead.
I've unraveled and re-knit the K2 column...
now to work on the YO's!

9-15-2014 Giraffe

Inspired by this picture (by memere)
of my Granddaughter
feeding the giraffes at the zoo...
I'm starting a giraffe soft toy.
She looks so tiny next to those big animals!!!
And I'm glad to see her wearing
the new Wallaby sweater that I knit for her!
I hope it will fit her all winter as she grows!

9-14-2014 Bindweed Saturnfly Finished!

My fairy's name is Bindweed Saturnfly.

Some people (farmers wanting cash crops, and gardeners wanting to impress others) think she is a trouble maker. She lives at the bottom of tangled gardens and in hedgerows. In reality, she gives hugs and support to those around her who are not the cash crops in cultivated fields, but rather are the disenfranchised, unwanted ‘weeds’ of life who have been left by the wayside…. those whom others overlook and pass by. Bindweed can only be seen at midday under a quiet, cloudless sky. She wears tangled multicoloured skirts made of petals and has pale pink wings like a cicada.
She finally has her tendrils, which she uses to ‘hug’ others, and her shimmery translucent veined pale pink cicada wings. I decided to leave off the eyebrows because I love her calm kind expression AS IS.

9-12-2014 Learning New Stitches

To learn new stitches
I make small swatches
which can then be used as dish/spa cloths.
I love that this stitch makes a reversible fabric!
(CO a multiple of 4 + 2 more...
then (k2, k1tbl,p) across each and every row.

I used the leftovers to knit up
some little Owl Puffs.

9-6-2014 Farmers Market

Today DH & I drove downtown to shop the Farmers Market
and saw some fun things...

Pumpkins with 'warts'...

 ...and clouds called "Mares Tails"
which are RARELY seen in these parts!
Though common in other areas (like Colorado, Montana, etc.)
it's the first time I've seen them here in Iowa
since moving here 8 years ago!
There's a weather saying...
"Mare's tails
bring storms and gales!"
