8-29-2017 Pruning

Before the hot summer temps
move back into the area this afternoon,
DH & I spent the morning pruning our birch trees
out in the front yard
and then took the trimmings to the
county mulch facility.

What other things do I need to prune from my life
and haul to the dump?

Sights along the Mississippi River on our way home...

Barges parked in the QC Mississippi
because of hurricane Harvey down south.

8-28-2017 Faroese Shawl

A new hat for GD#2...

...and a new Faroese Shawl for me!
This is the first Faroese shawl I've made.
The gusset in the center back is a shawl design
in all shawls made in the Faroese Islands.
These shawls are known for their wonderful fit
over the shoulders...no need for a shawl pin to keep it on.
 washing...
 wet blocking and air drying...

8-22-2017 Mini Shawl Swatch KAL

Today I started a mini shawl swatch KAL
that is teaching kitting techniques
from 5 different countries
and their lace.
This is the first one...

techniques from the Shetland Islands.
(Obviously, I did NOT use lace weight yarn...
just some scrap yarns from other projects
as I'm more interested in learning the techniques
than I am in the finished products!)

8-21-2017 Solar Eclipse

The day started out cloudy...
...but cleared up during the 3 hours of the solar eclipse!
"Oma, I see it!" they shouted in the dark light!
We were not in the path of 'totality'
but had over 90% of the sun covered.
The girls are standing in the light of that 90%.
