This morning I harvested 

the last of the Swiss Chard in my veggie garden.

It is my favorite garden veggie

and I eat some every day during the summer.

Sure will miss it this winter!

for such a good crop this year!

Today DH & I attended 

our first Halloween parade downtown.

Saw this vendor with lots of colorful junk!

so we went out to lunch

I'm thinking ahead...

since I will be celebrating Christmas

over the Thanksgiving holiday this year...

I've only got 3-4 weeks 

to finish up several Christmas knits!

Thought I would knit a few of these

for the LYS.

Still have to put on the tree and snowflake

and then seam up the back.

This evening

DH & I attended

a weenie roast in our church yard.

On the way there

we were trying to remember 

the last time we've eaten a hot dog...

I think it was at the 2009 Auto Show in Chicago

with our son Chad.

So, tonight we had a hot dog and S'mores for dinner!

We also celebrated

Jerry and Al's birthdays.

Today is our daughter's b-day too.

We were going to take her out to dinner tonight

but she had to work...

so we'll do it tomorrow.

 Visited Stone's Apple Orchard

and bought 1/2 peck of apples

which I then turned into three batches

of apple crisp!

While in Chicago visiting our son and his family today,

DH helped our son fix the sofa/chair

he 'accidentally broke' yesterday

while standing on it to clean the window sill.

...ooops!!!

We all had a good laugh at his expense.  :*)

I also got to hold my precious grandson

for several hours!!!  

Thank you, son and d-i-l

for the gift of 'grandma tiime!'

Hard to believe 

my precious grandson

is three months old today!

He's starting to find his hands 

and chew on them.  :*)

I'm looking forward 

to holding and kissing him tomorrow!

DD and S-I-L bought a house this morning!

It's hard to imagine

are now homeowners and parents!

This morning I'm baking breakfast breads:

pumpkin bread...

poppyseed bread...

rhubarb (from the garden) bread...

to take as a gift (and breakfast!)

on our upcoming trip to Chicago.

10-9-2012 Hot Hot Hot

 Today DH picked the last of the jalapeño peppers in the garden

and then pulled up the plants.

I cut them into slices and placed them in my Gevalia crock...

covered them with Michael Symon's pickle brine...

closed the lid and put them in the refrigerator...

I will let them soak for at least a week or two

before we start eating them.

Mmmm... some hot, hot, hot heat

for the upcoming cold, cold, cold Iowa winter!

Ahh, the JOYS of home ownership!!!

We discovered a leaky outdoor faucet today

so DH took it apart...

made a quick trip to the hardware store...

and replaced all the black washers in the faucet fixture

with some of these colorful beauties!

Well done, DH! 

No more drips.

Now we are ready for winter!
