We decided to be brave

and go OUT for lunch 

to celebrate our wedding anniversary yesterday!

Our final stop for this road trip...Lake Darling State Park...

much to our delight

there was water in the lake

as well as lovely hiking trails!

there were hundreds of Canadian geese at this lake...

lakeside cabins to rent...

3-23-2021 Lacey-Keosauqua State Park

...had a tiny pond and a few hiking trails around it,

but a nice trail along the river...

we stayed at an O L D hotel/inn which was cool.

There was no where to eat in town

so we went to the gas station and got a package

with a beef jerky stick and a cheese stick for dinner.

3-22-2021 Fairport State Recreation Area

Next we drove to Fairport State Recreation Area...

and found it to be a big parking lot with trailer hook ups

next to the river...not what we were hoping either.

3-21-2021 Geode State Park

Geode State Park was a bit of a letdown...

we were hoping to spend some time at the lake

only to find it had been drained in 2019!

Nevertheless, it was interesting to see the lake bottom

and the various structures for fish habitat.

3-20-2021 Time for a Rod Trip!

Yep, that's right... a Rod trip (not a road trip)...

Rod has cabin fever and needs to get away and outdoors,

and we want to get away to celebrate our anniversary

so we are doing a weekend road trip

to check out some state parks in SE Iowa.

First up...Wildcat Den State Park.

...a hike in the woods...

...an old log cabin...

...a 100+ year old school house...

...an old saw/grist mill...

...an old stone church...
