12-31-2018 Happy New Year!!!

GDs stayed up late
to watch the ball drop on television
in New York City...
their first New Year's Eve party!

Cheers in plastic champagne flutes
with bubbly grape juice!

Noisemakers!

They also baked a 'celebration cake'
that was half chocolate and half vanilla
but I forgot to take a pix of it.

While waiting for the ball to drop,
they played with their new leopard gecko pet.

A sore throat set in on Nov. 4th.
Then the infection went to my nose/sinuses.
Finally it moved to my chest
and has stayed there for 8 weeks
and shows no signs of leaving any time soon.
Time to go to the doctor!
Diagnosis: Pneumonia.
Time for some drugs.

12-21-2018 Winter Solstice

We had cloudy skies
so I borrowed this pix from the www
of the Winter Solstice full moon!
Won't happen again until 2094...
so it's a once in a lifetime event!

The longest, darkest night of the year is tonight.
Tomorrow, the days start getting longer
by about one minute per day!
My Card for today:
Inner Truths.

A little girl dressed in a green coat and hat, black leggings and lace-up boots is looking over her right shoulder at me, unafraid, with a smile on her face…a face which is illuminated by the lit candle she carries in a candlestick holder. Her right foot is in front of her left foot and it appears that she is taking small, careful steps along a path…a winding, convoluted, dark path through the inner chambers of a dark cave that has several chambers and openings to the outdoors.

The outdoor scenes differ from each other. One depicts a sunrise or sunset at the beach with a palm tree blowing in the salty breeze. Another opening depicts a winter wonderland filled with snow, an evergreen tree, a leafless deciduous tree, a few buildings in the background…a town perhaps…and four people and a dog and a horse out walking in the snow. A 3rdopening depicts a single cottage out in the countryside, surrounded by a lovely waterfall and stream, green grassy fields, and purple and pink flowers…an English garden comes to mind. A fourth opening on the far right depicts what looks like a tropical jungle or rainforest with a staircase leading up to a waterfall. The overall color…green, green, green. Behind and in front of the girl are 2 more chambers in the cave, both of them sporting stalagtites and stalagmites, and appearing to be lit from within…by fire? The opening in front of the girl is shaped like a head with a face in left profile. At the top center of the picture is another opening in the shape of a head in left profile that depicts the night sky full of stars, moons, planets and other heavenly bodies. To the left of this celestial opening is another face or two looking left.

Surrounding the path that the little girl walks upon are beds of rainbow colored crystals which light up and sparkle in the light of her candle. At the very bottom of the picture, just below her feet, is a small stream and the front part of a small boat which has been tied with a rope to a stone at water’s edge.

The girl looks like she arrived here in the boat (a vessel=our body) being carried here on the stream of water (water=emotions), and seems to be inviting me to come and explore this dark place (the inner recesses of my heart/mind). She is dressed in green, the color of healing, and carries a candle, a symbol of light, illumination, wisdom, and revelation. She is on a path, taking one small step forward to the right (right=future), taking small illuminated steps, going only as far as the candle allows her to see…one step at a time.

Is this dark place the inside of my heart? my mind? my memories? my past? Is she trying to lead me on a path to examine and face the darkness? out of the darkness to any of the beautiful outdoor vistas filled with light? Is she telling me that light, crystals and being out in nature will help me heal? She is inviting me to illuminate (candle) and explore (boots) the dark places in my past (faces looking to the left=past) and find illumination, which will help guide my journey, one small step at a time, out of this dark place and into the light of whatever I want the remainder of my life to look like? I've spent the past six decades focusing on the darkness within, and this past year exploring and facing it.

On this Winter solstice, the longest, darkest night of the year, and the shortest day of the year, I will look forward...forward to less darkness and more light in my life...from this day forward.

12-15-2018 Making Daddy Cookies

GDs asked if they could make daddy
some cookies for his birthday.
Oma said, "Sure! What kind?"
GD's, "Gingerbread men!"

So we/they did...
they squeezed the lemons,
they zested the lemons,
they measured the spices,
they stirred the dough with a wooden spoon,
they rolled out the dough,
they cut the cookies out with a cookie cutter,
Oma put them in the oven
and frosted them,
they decorated them
and wrapped them up in birthday wrapping paper.
What a gift of love!

Gingerbread men made from scratch!
Watch out Betty Crocker!
You've got competition!
