I'm embarrassed to post my lesson this week. 

I do not have oil paints or the app the the teacher used, 

so I just used the acrylics I have, and the normal 'grid system'. 

For the life of me I could not get my face to smile, 

or look like a child. Sigh.

I also added some outlining at the end of it all.

And, we got a new bed yesterday!

A "Smart Bed" that comes with a "User Guide."

Hope I'm smart enough to sleep in it!!!

Cutting out little bits and pieces, 

and gluing them, 

is not my cup of tea, 

but gave it a try anyway 

and did the bare minimum to finish the lesson...

had a lot of trouble getting the tape to stick 

to the black gesso and silver paint, 

so tried glue, and that didn't work very well either. 

I think next time I'll just paint the scene. 

But, this lesson definitely got me 

out of my comfort zone, so...good deal.

3-25-2024 Custom Washi Tape...

Yesterday we watched the GDs all day,

so Oma decided we needed to make some custom washi tape

for future art projects.

The GDs had so much fun

and it took most of the day

due to the drying times of paint and glue.

Gluing scraps of paper 

onto stips of masking tape

mounted on wax paper...

Oma's washi tape...

D's washi tape...

J's washi tape

was all about5 DnD...

J was having so much fun

she didn't want to quit,

so she starts a second project...

what our palette looked like when we got done...

D had to give it some good smears...

Then they wanted to do some hand prints...

The day before yesterday 

the GDs and I started making some custom washi tape 

for future art projects...here's mine before I cut it apart.

We pressed pieces of masking tape onto a sheet of wax paper right next to each other )with a small space between each strip so we could cut them apart later), used a paintbrush to cover it all with matte medium, then let it dry completely. When dry, we used matte medium to collage paper scraps, napkins, coffee filters, tissue, book pages, etc. on top of the masking tape strips on the left, painted with stencils on 2 strips from the right, and used posca pens to make some marks on the last 2 strips on the far right. It was a fun project that occupied a bit of their time! Once dry, you can cut the strips apart, and when ready to use on an art project, just peel the strip of masking tape off the wax paper and apply to your artwork!

and only slightly resembles the reference photos,

I am able to see my progress

beyond my kindergarten stick people!

In this class the teacher used oil paints...

I only have acrylic paints...

so did what I could with what I had.

Great Revivalist Brewing...

takes old, rundown, abandoned buildings

and turns them into local brew pubs!

Earlier this week

 we visited this one...an old church...

in Clinton Iowa.

Pretty cool place for a pizza and beer for lunch!

We ordered at 11:21 a.m.

and got our 8"round soggy pizza with raw toppings

and leftovers from the oven on the bottom

at 12:14 p.m.  Sigh.

(I had such high hopes!)

If we ever go again

I think we'll get a sandwich instead...

this pizza was not worth the wait!
