I've finished the headband portion

of the 2010 Olympic Reindeer Hat

and noticed that there's an error in the pattern...

Ordinarily

I order 1 poached egg and a small bowl of fresh fruit

for my Wednesday morning breakfast

with my gal pals from church

but today I did something

out of the ordinary

and ordered a piece of pumpkin pie

for breakfast!

11-15-2010 Holiday Cards

I may forgo buying

holiday cards and stamps this year

and send greetings

via e-mail and FaceBook.

This seems to be the new trend...

tho IMHO, there is nothing better

than receiving a card/note

from a loved one

via snail-mail.

After knitting gauge swatches for my

2010 Winter Olympics Moose/Reindeer hat

(the pattern recommends a US-size 5 needle),

I finally got to the correct gauge

using a US-size 1 needle...

and here's a pix of my progress so far... the forehead under-rim:

Even tho I had my first flu shot,

and feel 'protected'...

I start every day

with a shot of Vitamin C

from fresh squeezed

lime or lemon juice...

does that make me a 'Limey?' Aye aye, matie!!!

After several days of knitting gauge swatches

and learning how to do a provisional cast on

I am finally ready to start knitting

my 2010 Winter Olympics moose/reindeer hat!!!

onto circular needles that are the correct size

for the pattern's gauge.

11-11-2010 Veterans' Day

I want to send out

a heart-felt "THANK YOU!" to every single veteran

and active duty military personnel

for your service to our country 

to protect us and our freedom!

Today DH & I found the most yummy looking Swiss Chard

 in the produce department at the grocery store

and made a fish&shrimp/potato/tomato/carrot/rice/chard stew

to enjoy for the next week

as the cold weather settles over Iowa.

11-10-2010 Provisional Cast On

Today I'm beginning a new knitting project...

the adorable moose/reindeer hat

from the 2010 Winter Olympics!

Helena Bristow has recreated her version of this pattern:

and it calls for a 'provisional cast on'

which is something new to me

as a begining knitter

so I researched and tried several methods

presented on the www

and found that this one

(using a crochet hook)

worked best for me.

so here is a photo of the finished CO.

Today I finished knitting up this little project...

a sweater for a new Chicago Bears Fan

11-8-2010 Indian Summer

This morning DH & I attended

another cooking class by Chef Monika

which was being taped for a local television show: PSL.

The segment will air on Friday.

This afternoon DH took advantage

of an unusually warm (70*F +)

November day in Iowa (Indian summer!)

to put up our outdoor Christmas lights.

Thanks, sweetie! They look great!

Today our church 'celebrated'

"All Saints Day"

and I cried alot

thinking about my mom.

DH took me out to lunch at Chili's afterward

for some comfort food.

Today I finished up a knitted baby blanket

for my neighbor across the street

whose due date is around Thanksgiving!

Tomorrow I start on the baby hat and booties

to go with the blanket.  :*)
