I had so much fun crocheting these mini prayer cloths

for my friends.

I prayed over each one before giving it away.

Mini Prayer Cloth by Southern Belle

Rows: I indicate rows by using the letter R and the row number. Example: R1 would be row one. After each row, you will ch1, turn.! Popcorn Stitch: make 3 dc in the same stitch. Take hook out of last dc and leave loop hang. Insert hook into first dc (front to back, as normal) and grab the loop from last dc. Pull through first dc and ch 1. This ch 1 will not count as a stitch in the row - you will skip it when you sc in the next row. Push popcorn stitch forward to make it stick out if needed.! 

Remember: at the end of each row, ch 1 and turn.!

R1: ch 10. sc in 2nd ch from hook and in the next 8 ch (9 sc)!
R2: sc across (9 sc)!
R3: sc in next 4 sts, pc in next st, sc in next 4 sts (8 sc, 1 popcorn)!
R4: sc across (9 sc)!
R5: sc in next 4 sts, pc in next st, sc in next 4 sts (8 sc, 1 popcorn)!
R6: sc across (9 sc)!
R7: sc in next 2 sts, pc in next st, sc in next st, pc in next st, sc in next st, pc in next st, sc in next 2 sts (6 sc, 3 popcorn)!
R8: sc across (9 sc)!
R9: sc in next 4 sts, pc in next st, sc in next 4 sts (8 sc, 1 popcorn)!
R10: sc across (9 sc)!
R11: sc across. ch 1, but DO NOT turn. (9 sc)!
Finishing: 2 sc in last st of R11, then sc evenly around the prayer cloth, making 3 sc in each corner except the first corner. Once you get back to the first corner, make 1 sc in that st (it will already have 2sc in it). Fasten off and weave in ends.!

and they seem to fit the porch posts much better!

3-10-2016 Library Field Trip

 GD's preschool class

went on a field trip to the library today!

They got to take a tour of the library

and see the 'magic' sorting machine.

3-9-2016 Kombucha SCOBI

Today I removed my Scobi

from my 2nd batch of homemade Kombucha 

(fermented tea)

and added it to the freshly brewed tea on the right

to start next week's new batch.

It works kind of like sourdough

in that you add a little of the old/fermented tea

(in the pitcher)

to the new batch of tea (on the right),

then top it with the SCOBI

and let it 'brew' for the next week.

 My beautiful SCOBI...

(looks like a disgusting blob, yes?!?!?)

3-7-2016 Window Washing

Watching this guy wash windows

was grand entertainment

while waiting for my doctor's appointment!

It also reminds me that I need to wash MY windows at home

and that I plan to use the window washer's squeegee technique!

3-5-2016 Kicking Myself

DH & I went to pay our condolences

to my BFFs as they said goodbye to their stepdad

who passed away on Wednesday.

This is the only picture I took at the funeral

as he was sent off with military honors.

I'm kicking myself for NOT taking a pix

of myself with my BFF!

3-4-2016 Embroidered Socks

I finally finished my first pair of embroidered socks!

I wish the pattern had the cables run 

down the CENTER of the front of the sock

instead of half down the front and half down the side.

It make the sock fit and feel a bit wonky.

If I make another pair of these,

I will center the cables down the front

and leave them UN-embroidered.

I think the plain cables are prettier!

Made some Granny Squares

to start the Yarn Bombing

of my LYS (Local Yarn Shop)

...as requested by the owner.

3-2-2016 Plum Cookies Recipe

GD handed me this piece of paper 

(with a big smile of pride on her face)

and said, "Oma, this is my recipe for plum cookies!

I   L...O...V...E  plum cookies!

Well, I just happened to have one plum left in the fridge,

so of course, we HAD to make some 'plum cookies'!!!

The recipe I used is just a simple sugar jumble:

1/4 c. soft oleo

1/4 c. sugar

1/2 egg

1/2 tsp. vanilla

1/2 c. + 1 TB. flour

1/8 tsp. baking soda

1/4 tsp. salt

Spoon onto cookie sheet and top with whatever!

Bake 375*F 8-10 min.

2-26-2016 Yarn Bombing

Last night,

while knitting at my LYS,

I learned that later next month

there are plans to do some

Yarn Bombing

at our local yarn shop's (Knit & Knot) new location!

So, I decided to join in the fun and participate

by making some 12" granny squares

for the front porch posts!

It will be a great way to do some 'stash-busting'

and use up some of my odds and ends/leftovers

from other projects

(which will make room for NEW yarn in my closet!).

My plan is to make one or two squares per day

for the next month.

2-25-2016 Irish Meadows Alpaca Farm

Some of my knitting friends organized a day trip

to the Irish Meadows Alpaca Farm today

and I was invited to come along!

And yes, I did end up buying some yarn

harvested from these amazing creatures!
