5-11-2021. Arches National Park

The Stone People...
guardians and gate-keepers to the park
which is a sacred place!

Driving up this mountain...
you can see the park entrance and highway below...

On the horizon...
the mountains we drove thru to get here...

rather phallic...

rather textural...

Elephant Rock

First Arches we've seen today...

More 'elephant rocks'...

Double Arch..

A reminder to bloom where you are planted...

Desert Varnish...
a great place to look for petroglyphs!

knitting progress on my "Da Crofter Kep"...

5-10-2021. Across Utah to Arches National Park

Leaving Colorado and heading into Utah...

We took 'scenic' highway 128...
which felt a bit sketchy at first...
we were the only ones on the road
out in the middle of nowhere...
we discussed maybe turning back
but are glad we didn't!

it ran along the Colorado River...

We had lots of chance to stop
and investigate/explore the rocks of different colors...
DH found some cattle (?) teeth...

Eventually, after an hour our more,
we came across a campground
where we stopped to use the facilities,
collect some river water to use while painting
in my travel journal,
and where my phone fell out of the car
and another camper saw it happen,
retrieved the phone,
and chased us down the highway to return it!
My angels!!!

The rocks in the hillsides were about as orange as my JEEP!
Sedona has nothing on this place!

Having these big rocks/boulders hanging overhead
as you drive by underneath them
is a bit unnerving!

Love the layers of erosion over the eons...

Starting to see landscapes
that look like Monument Valley...

Black Desert Varnish on the faces of the rocks

Towering rock piles leaning over the roadway...yikes!!!

After hours of white-knuckled driving,
we finally arrived at Moab, UT...
our stop for the next week.

Dinner...

We thought it funny
that the Mormons don't drink coffee or beer,
yet make it to sell to others
and look down on the consumers
with righteous indignation.
Ahh...gotta love religion.
