Since DH and I have never seen a Solar Eclipse in totality,
we decided to chase this one down
since it will be the last opportunity for us in this lifetime.
We originally made plans to head to Memphis,
then depending on the weather/cloud cover
we could travel an hour north, west, or south
to see the eclipse in totality.
Two days before the eclipse
it became obvious that the locations
were all going to be cloudy,
so we canceled our hotel reservations
so we checked the weather maps
and saw clear skies predicted in southern Missouri,
so we headed to Cape Girardeau MO.
We had blue skies
and a spectacular view of the eclipse in totality!!!
We stopped at a rest stop just north of town
where many others had stopped
to view the eclipse.
Clear skies...
The rest stop across the highway...
The rest stop on our side...
DH chit-chatting with the folks...
Bumper to bumper traffic into Cape Girardeau...
Allen from the U of MO-Columbia
had lots of photo gear!
Sunny skies before the eclipse...
And here we go...
the eclipse is starting...
And this was a pix from my phone during totality...
And the darkness during totality...
It was spectacular...breath-taking!
The next one won't come around
until our kids are the age we are now
and the grandkids will be in their 30'S!
This was a 'once-in-a-lifetime' experience for me,
and I'm so glad I got to see this celestial event!
