2-11-2024 Family...Fun...Food...

This weekend DH and I went to Chicago 

to visit our son and his family.

We had so much fun and laughter playing games,

and some amazing food at the DAO Thai restaurant...

it was like a Japanese steak house where they cook

the food in front of you...

dinner and a show.

The cook kept calling one of my grandsons "Birthday Boy"

even tho it wasn't his birthday,

and my GS looked so confused, ha.

But we just went with it, and he got some extra food!

The GSs and I baked a carrot cake

to surprise daddy when he got home from work.

And we played lots of video games,

(we wore out the controller

and my son successfully fixed it!),

board games,

and did some sketching together.

I did a 'layering leaves' painting a while ago

that put the darkest colors in the background

and the lightest colors in the foreground...

which makes more sense to my eyes...

But, when you follow the rules of atmospheric perspective,

they say to put the darker and more intense colors in the front

and the paler muted colors in the background,

so I may give this one orange-pink-purple painting

another try...and see what comes.

I abandoned the Loomis Method for this one, and it shows!

The face is too squat, and the mouth is way too big.

The name of this piece is "Beginnings"

and it truly is a beginning for me...

I signed up for a year-long online art course

"Let's Face It 2024"

about drawing faces

which does one project each week

with a different/new instructor each week.

They each teach their own method of drawing faces.

It will be fun to try each week's lesson

and see if by year's end

I will find a method that I love

and choose to use as my own.
