3-13-2024 Still Practicing the Loomis Method to Sketch Portraits...

Here's my sketch for my next portrait painting...

still practicing the Loomis method...

and the reference photo...I know, I know...

it looks nothing like her...but at least I'm trying...

practice makes perfect, they say.

I'm a beginner at painting portraits

and am too imtimidated

to try this one using paint

without a preliminary sketch

(like was done in the lesson)!

So I thought I would try to practice

sketching the face

(using the Loomis method),

and then use Christa's directions

to LOOK FOR SHAPES

as one does the shading.

I have/use an 8X10" sketchbook.

I don't have a 12x12" canvas

that is used in the lesson,

and I don't have any of the acrylic paint colors

the teacher used in the lesson

except the white and black.

I'm calling this one done for now...

may revisit it later in the year

as I gain more confidence and paint colors.

The GDs made me a beautiful spring bouquet

for my front entry table,

so it put me in the mood to paint some flowers!

We also cleaned out the flower beds

of last year's old foliage...

with a reward of their choosing...

s'mores and hotdogs...

did some tree climbing...

made some of Oma's soup

and some Cookie Monster sugar cookies

to celebrate St. Patricks' Day and Easter...

played with neighbors in the mud

and on the trampoline...

while Oma sat and finished her current read...

and finally put some finishing touches

on the Leprechaun traps for this weekend...

and practiced music...

Whew! What a long, full day!

Oma and Papa are tired!

Meanwhile, the GSs in Chicago

did some 'spring cleaning' of their own...

had fun taking apart a broken leaf blower!

Ah...what the heck,

we'll just smash it to bits

with a big hammer!
