5-10-2023 Skittle...Vacation Day 13 - Walking Tour of Old Louisville with David Domino...Stitzel-Weller Whiskey-Chocolate Pairing...Book Signing

Vacation Day 13 @ OLD Louisville, KY...
we did a walking tour of Old Louisville KY
with author David Domine
who was a wealth of info, stories, and urban legends!!!
We went to his book signing later that night.

What I found most interesting was St. James Court
and the surrounding mansions
built there for the rich people
after the grand Southern Exhibition in 1884
(a precursor to the "World's Fair").
After the exhibition hall was torn down
developers decided to build a neighborhood of big mansions,
and David told us stories about them that were fascinating!
The Victorian architecture was not what people
typically think of, but it was amazing...
each mansion was different.

Our tour guide, David Domine...

The new neighborhood was dubbed St. James Court
and the mansions surrounded "Central Park"
which was designed by the same person
who did Central Park in NYC.

(and then there is our BnB...)

Over David's right shoulder
is Tom Cruise's family home...
There are over 40 city blocks of these amazing mansions!

The Venus fountain in Old Louisville's Central Park...

And a fallen tree's trunk in Central Park was carved into a statue
of the old-time lamplights back in the day...

Another cool feature of this unique neighborhood
is the European style "walking courts".
The front doors of the homes
face a green space instead of a street.
The streets are behind the mansions.
People would dress up in their finest
and promenade up and down the courts
to see and impress their neighbors back in the day.

And then there's the "Witches' Tree"
and all the good stories around it...
and people in the neighborhood leave trinkets
to appease the witches...
it is blamed for many of the bad things that happen
in the neighborhood...

...like storms...
and trees falling on cars...

Jack Harlow used this image of this fallen tree
on the back cover
of one of his recent albums...

After the morning's walking tour of Old Louisville KY
we stopped at Buck's for some lunch...

Having been fortified with some fine dining morsels
we are ready to head off to some distillery tours!

First up, a tasting for whiskey and chocolate pairing
at Stitzel-Weller...

+++++++++++++
Next on tap...
a tour of the Stetzel-Weller distillery...

++++++++++++
And then a tour
of Copper and Kings Distillery...

+++++++++++

Then dinner at the Old Louisville Tavern...
yet another historic icon of the area...
recommended by our Innkeeper...

Logo of the Louisville Cardinals...

Then it was off to David Domine's book signing
at a local bookstore...

We bought and read 3 of his books...

And then it was back to our BnB for the night...
the lights were on and very welcoming
after a full day of fun!
