DD had her baby last night while we were in Chicago

so we left Chicago earlier than planned

and drove to Iowa City

to meet our new granddaughter

who arrived 2 weeks early.  :*)

4-17-2012 Brucemore House

 Today DH & I decided to take a day trip

to see the Brucemore House

in Cedar Rapids.

The $7.00 fee to have a guided tour of the mansion 

was well worth the price!

The founder of Quaker Oats once lived in this mansion

as well as two other families.

My favorite part of the mansion was the 'man cave' in the basement!

Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take photos

inside the mansion, so all I took was outdoor photos

of the gardens:

DH & I went to see the new

Julia Roberts movie: Mirror, Mirror.

We give it a "Two Thumbs Up" rating.   :*)

4-15-2012 Mountain Bike Race

This morning we enjoyed

spending time with our DD

and watching our S-I-L race

in the Sylvan Stampede.

It was the first time he had ridden 

in the "Fat Tire" category 

(and on a borrowed bike!)

and he still came in second!

Today at the LYS Knit & Knot

they are beginning a KAL (Knit-a-long)

for a Lamb toy/doll (seen in upper left)

and the instructor brought in some lamb/sheep cookies

for participants.

I love the black sheep in the middle!

Also, looks like there is a bit of interest

in the new deck hockey rink

(run by the local professional hockey team)

at the local park.

Today I attended my DD's baby shower

hosted by her M-I-L.

She had a cute "Rubber Ducky" theme.

The 'baby shower games'

were my responsibility.

The object of this game was to see

who could drain the 2 oz. of grape juice

from the baby bottle first.

After DH & I got off work today

we attended a beautiful

orchestral & choral contata Tenebre service.

It's fun watching the work progress,

but it still looks like they have sun on their deck!

Looks like our backyard neighbors

in the afternoons and evenings...

Today's newspaper

had a front page article

about a family that makes "Palm Crosses."

I bought one several years ago at a synod convention,

so it was fun to read about the 

people who make them!

Today we drove to Iowa City

and took our DD & S-I-L out for brunch

to celebrate the end of their school year!!!

Since they are moving back here to the QC next month

we brought a load or two of items back with us...

every little bit now will make 

the official 'moving day' in June easier.

...was a fabulous concert

with amazing soloists!!!

I'm still feeling the wonderful vibes from this concert 

days later!

My little lilac bush has lots of blooms this spring! YAY!

After one of Iowa's mildest winters on record,

it is still wonderful 

to feel the Spring's warm sunshine on my face,

to smell the blossoming trees,

and to observe the beauty of Spring flowers!
