Today I finally finished knitting my Thrummed Mittens!

They are sooooooo warm!

Looking forward to using them next winter!!!

Today has been our first day

of Spring-like weather 

with temps in the 50*F's...

Grandson's first day outdoors 

walking in grass in his backyard

(he doesn't look to sure about it!)...

...and Granddaughter 

had fun swinging at the park!

(Just look at her smile!)

3-29-2013 Tenebrae

Tenebrae...

a worship service

observed during the final part of Holy Week

commemorating the sufferings and death

of Jesus the Christ.

Tonight DH & I attended this service

featuring music written for Good Friday.

3-28-2013 Blocking Gail

Today I purchased some lace weight

blocking wires

from my LYS

to block my first lace shawl.

I began this shawl on April 5, 2012

so it has taken me almost an entire year

to complete!

Looking back, I probably should have: 

1) chosen a different pattern

for my very first lace shawl,

as this one was designed for

advanced lace knitters

and NOT beginners 

(but I LOVED the design in this one

so just jumped right in!), and

2) chosen a solid color yarn

instead of the colorful varigated yarn

which competes with the lace pattern

for your eye.

So glad I finally finished it...

have a second one in mind already!

3-27-2013 Stubbornness

Thanks to my stubbornness

and the encouragement of my LYS pals

my Gail (aka Nightsongs) lace shawl

is off the needles.!!!  YAY!!!

I began this shawl on April 5, 2012

so it was almost a year in the making!

Tomorrow I will get some blocking wires

and steam this nemesis!

Hopefully it will be ready to wear

on Easter Morning!

... our most precious gift ...

Today DD & I attended the Bodies Revealed" exhibit.

Awesome!

3-25-2013 Snip-its

All winter long

I've been saving my snip-its

from each knitting project...

I plan to hang them in a suet basket

and spread some on the bushes

for birds to use

as nesting material.

Hoping to see some colorful nests!

3-24-2013 Happy 39th!

Today is my 39th wedding anniversary!

Thank you, dear husband, for putting up with me for 39 years!

Here's to the next 39, my dear!

To celebrate this happy occasion

we went out to dinner last night...

enjoyed Moroccan cuisine by Chef Monika

at her fabulous bed and breakfast,

the Chestnut Street Inn.

She never disappoints.

This morning we woke up to greet Old Man Winter...

apparently he did not get the memo

that it is now Spring!

I took this pix when I got up in the morning...

we got another 6 inches throughout the day.

I am encouraged, however, but this sign of Spring:

a Robin!

I got to see a colorful yarn bowl

custom made by one of the employees!

3-22-2013 Dog Whisperer

Today I had lunch with Cesar Millan, Dog Whisperer...

along with 700+ other people~

He was the guest speaker at a fund-raiser luncheon

for Gilda's Club of the Quad Cities.

The dining hall was quite dim... and large...

and all I had was my cell phone

to capture an image...

He was VERY entertaining!

Thank you so much for helping Gilda's Club, Cesar!

I'm a huge fan of your 'Dog Whisperer' show

and wish everyone who owns a dog

would watch them!!!

I've been working on this

lace triangular shawl

for a year now.

All I have left to knit is the edging...

and I don't have a clue how to do it!

I'm hoping to have it done so I can wear it for Easter.

Today I went on the knitting forums

begging for help.

3-16-2013 Fiber Festival

Today DH & I did a road trip

to the Fiber Festival in Vinton, Iowa.

The luck of the Irish was with me...
not only did I run into some friends
from my LYS, 

but I won a door prize...

a $10 gift certificate to be spent

at any booth. I bought a drop spindle

and some roving to practice spinning yarn.

Still messy and snowing outdoors

so DD and GD and I

went to the mall to walk several miles today.

Ten more days until Winter is officially over!

I'm so looking forward to Spring/Summer/Fall

so I can start running again!

Lunch for the two of us was $42...

Well, I wasn't satisfied 

with the shape I had made previously

so I ripped back to the pink thread

below the bump on the left

and redid the lower part of the ivory section...

much happier with it now!

3-3-2013 Easily Forgotten

Our dear nieto/grandson was napping when we arrived

for this month's visit.

Since we only see him about once a month

we are easily forgotten by the little guy

and he's not happy with a 'stranger' holding him!

His 'sad face' makes me laugh!

But after we've been there for a while

he warms up to us

and becomes his happy self.
