7-31-2010 Worn Out!

The rubber backing is falling off of my 20 year old rugs...
think I need to replace them?!?!  :*)
Saturday is housecleaning day
and today when I took the rugs outdoors to shake them
they practically fell apart in my hands!
Wal-Mart, here I come...

7-28-2010 Flooding

Although the mighty Mississippi River is out of her banks,
she didn't rise as much as predicted. Whew!

7-27-2010 Hennepin Canal

Today DH & I went to explore a nearby canal to see if it is kayak-able.

7-26-2010 I think I'm in heaven!

DD & I had a "girls' weekend"...
went shopping and out to eat at the Cheesecake Factory!

7-24-2010 BIX 7

Today is the BIX 7... a 7 mile foot race in the streets of downtown.
The 15,108 runners and walkers had to race in heavy rain and wind.
Afterwards, there's a huge street fest
where vendors feed those 15,108 people lunch!
This evening is the BIX Jazz fest. :*)

Happy Birthday, Mom.
Thinking of you today.

7-23-2010 Hola

My new computer program!

7-22-2010 Another 7 hours

After spending 5 hours doing research on the internet and in my knitting books and another 2 hours taking out the bind off row of my toe-up sock, I finally tried a sewn bind off method recommended on the internet for sock cuffs. Upon completion, it is still too tight to get on my foot. ~ARGH!!! Tonight I plan to knit a small 'cuff' and tomorrow I will go to the knit shop and talk to the lady who gives the sock classes and have her show me which bind off method she recommends/uses. Any of you knitters out there have any suggestions?

7-20-2010 Joy

What is it
about knitting
a piece of purple yarn
into a piece of fabric
that brings me such joy?

7-19-2010 Tears

Thanks, kiddos!!!

7-18-2010 Dialysis Sleeves

These are the dialysis sleeves I knitted while DH took his turns driving during our 6,458 mile road trip/vacation. I wanted something quick and small that I could work on while we drove and these were perfect. The hospital has a group of little old ladies who can't keep up with the demand for these, so thought I would stitch up a few while we drove.

7-17-2010 Dinner Invite

Friends invited us over for dinner (and a dip in their pool) tonight!
Thanks so much! We had a lovely evening! :*)

7-16-2010 Favorite Vistas

These were my favorite vistas from our trip...

7-15-2010 Florals

SOME of the MANY florals we saw on our trip...

7-14-2010 Wildlife

Just a sampling of the wildlife we saw on our road trip...
thousands of buffalo in Yellowstone...

we saw (5) grizzly bears...

we saw (2) black bears...

we saw hundreds of elk...

we saw a herd of about 20 mountain goats...

a yellow bellied marmot...

the only moose we saw was this one in Salt Lake City...

lots of squirrels...

pelicans and heron...

ducks and geese by the hundreds...

We saw much more wildlife than we could photograph, including coyote!

7-13-2010 Developments

After 3 weeks of vacation without internet access, I arrived home yesterday, looking forward to catching up on my blog, the forums and email... only to find that our internet (and phone and tv) service was out!!! The neighbors directly behind us put up a new fence around their backyard while we were gone, and the post diggers managed to cut MediaCom's main line! DH used his cell phone to call for service and they came out right away and fixed it. :*)

7-12-2010 Home At Last!

We arrived home safe and sound from our 3 week road trip/vacation to find my DH's garden full of fresh, organic, ready-to-pick produce: tomatoes, beans, beets, summer squash.
We enjoyed these steamed veggies for dinner...
a welcome change after 3 weeks of restaurant foods!
