At the grocery store this morning

I saw this flavor description

for one of the wines.

Who doesn't want a wine 

that tastes like leather and dirt?!?!?!?

Any takers?

I think I will pass.

8-30-2013 Hot, hot, hot

Outdoor temps have 'cooled down'

to 100*F 

after a daytime high of 103*F.

This pix was taken at 4:13 pm

on my way to "Friday Night Sit & Knit."

I'm looking forward to the cooler days of autumn!

8-29-2013 Heat Wave

Every day this past week

has been 100*F+...

I guess we are due this

after having had such a mild/cool summer so far.

My GD stays cool in the pool.

My GS stays cool playing indoors

and helping pick up his toys afterwards.

8-28-2013 Wocket

 My GD loves to have this book read to her

so I thought I would create the characters

for her to find!

There's a WOCKET in my pocket! 

There's a ZAMP in the lamp!

etc.

8-27-2013 I've got my eyes on you!

I've got my eyes on you!

Here are a couple of eyes I painted on white felt

to be attached to the puppet I knit at the recent

'Yarn Tasting' event at my LYS.

I incorporated 6 different yarns into the puppet...

three on each side.

It's a fun and easy way to try out new yarn

and see how they knit up...

and have something fun to play with when you're done!

8-26-2013 Red Lantern

Today after church

DH & I decided to try out the new Chinese Restaurant

in our neighborhood.

The interior decorating was lovely!

The food was quite expensive (IMHO) for what we got.

(We spent over $50!!!)

We probably won't be going back again.

8-24-2013 Patio ~ Day 5 ~ Finished!

Today José put on the finishing touch...

epoxy/sand

onto the surface of the patio...

and then he used a vibrating machine to help it fall down

into the cracks between the stones

and do any final leveling and smoothing...

after which he hosed it down with water

so the epoxy will set up like concrete.

I am sooooooooo pleased with the final result!!!

Our patio is done

and my labyrinth/sacred space is born!

I started my first knitted fairy today.

I've only knit about 2 inches of her

and I'm already in love with her!

8-20-2013 Koala (& Patio - Day 2)

I made this little Koala this morning for Annie.

I also wound my skein of OPAL sock yarn

into 2 equally weighted balls

so they are ready to go 

for the September sock KAL at my LYS.

Day 2 ~ Patio

(seating bench is built)

8-19-2013 Patio - Day 1

We are having 

a patio

built into our yarn

at the bottom of our deck steps.

The company we hired this spring to do the work

showed up today!

Yippee!

First they dug up the sod.

Then they dug the foundation for the seating/bench

and placed a gravel foundation.

And here is what it looks like after Day 1.

8-18-2013 A Walk in the Park

Today DH & I drove to Chicago

to see our grandson

and visit with our son and daughter-in-law.

We had a picnic lunch in the park near their home.

Thanks so much for lunch and a (brief but) wonderful visit!

It featured yarns by KFI.

I'm making a hand puppet

with all my mini-balls of yarn samples.

8-11-2013 Exchange

This month's KAL at my LYS

is a dish/washcloth exchange...

knit-or-crochet 3 dish/washcloths

and bring them into the LYS...

and on Aug. 31 they have an exchange...

and everyone who participates is entered

into a drawing for a $25 gift certificate!

I needed something to do on yesterday's bus ride

so I started my dishcloths and finished them up today.

I still have to block them.

boarded a bus and headed to Chicago today

to attend the Stitches Midwest convention...

a fiber and yarn gathering.

I had such a wonderful time!

I've never seen so much yarn in one place.
