My travel sketch journal for Giant City, April 20, 2023...

Our cabin for the next few nights...

We were warned ahead of time

by the cabin owners

that there is no place to go eat

out here in the middle of the forest,

so we bought a rotisserie chicken,

some veggies to steam,

and some fruit for dessert,

at a Walmart several hours away,

before we drove into the Shawnee National Forest.

It worked out well.

Vacation sketch journal...

After a day of hiking

we hit a fiber festival in MO

and then arrive at Grafton IL on the Mississippi River

for the night...

We did NOT go zip lining, 

but loved this little piece of metal art

in front of our 'resort'!

Our 'Resort' was a small cinderblock building...

Sunset...

But, we DID ride the sky lift

to the top of the hill

to take in the view!

Folks lined up to take their cars across 

the flooded Mississippi River

on this ferry for hours.

Sunrise the next morning...
