Creating this listeria deck was a year-long project!!!

My DIL sent me this pix of my GS

and his bowl full of Jalapeños

from their garden (thanks!)...

...which made me think...

Gee...I haven't checked MY plant for a week...

so I went out and checked

and found these ready for picking,

as well as about 30 more small ones

(for next week)

and about 20 more blossoms!

Wowza, this plant has given us a big harvest!

So, time to pickle these!

This week's portrait lesson was WAY beyond my capabilities, 

but I went ahead and hand-scribbled it anyway, 

and painted with the limited watercolors I have...

none of which were colors the teacher used. 

Feel free to laugh at it/me. 

I'm at least proud of myself for trying to do the thing! 

I've already sketched a second one in my journal 

and plan to give it another go.

This week's portrait lesson...

Layer 1...Collage on Watercolor paper

(Then I made hand-cut some stencils

to create hand-made collage paper

to rip up and paste over layer one)

Layer 2...second layer of collage paper

Layer 3...(a little paint over layer 2 to unify)

Layer 4...(sketch a face using Stabilo)

Layer 5...(activate the Stabilo with water and let dry)

Layer 6...

Today I will finally start adding PAINT!

White paint for initial highlights...

Layer 7...Black + Purple paint for initial shading

Layer 8...Black + Purple Shading next layer to darken

Layer 9...

Layer 10...

Layer 11...

Layer 12...Finally finished!

It was a challenge since I had no audio on the final

video tutorial.

This portrait took me a full week to make!

8-15-2024 Garden Bounty...

 Some flowers from the garden...

And guess who's making some pickled Jalapeños today?!?!

This is only a small portion of what I picked...

from one plant!!!

And they are huge!

I'm going to use Michael Symon's recipe for

the pickling brine:

Bring to a boil for 2 minutes:

2 c. vinegar

1 c. water

2 TB. salt

2 TB. sugar

and then add whatever other things you like...

peppercorns

bay leaves

garlic

red pepper flakes

etc.

You can use this recipe to pickle ANY vegetable!

These gals are twice the size

of Jalapeños I buy at the grocery store!!!

Mmmm.... ready for this winter!

All sliced and pickled!
