This piece used such an interesting

(and new to me) process!

I worked it in my journal on watercolor paper,

not on a canvas,

and I only had one mop brush,

so had to wait for it to dry numerous times,

and the process degraded the paper quickly.

I couldn't force myself to cover her with a yellow wash,

so left her as is since I really love the aqua/pink background!

Thanks so much for a great tutorial, Aprell Kirk!

I'm still practicing the Loomis method

to try and learn how

to sketch realistic faces.

I know my sketches look nothing

like the reference photos,

but I'm learning something new with each attempt.

Thought I'd try sketching my favorite cop/detective...

I don't have oil paints or large canvas

(just my 7x10" watercolor paper journal),

so in this lesson I focused on learning

to make a sketch using a grid,

then colored with watercolor paint,

and tried to focus on shading.

I ended up outlining the girl in black

to make her stand out more and have a more 'illustrative style.'
